Purpose of Myth Review

1. 4 fundamental questions that myths address are "What is the nature of the universe in which I live?" "How much do I have over my own life?" "What must I do in order to survive?" and "How can I balance my own desires with my responsibilities to my family and my community?"

2. The 4 themes in mythology are first parents are gods of sky and earth, the creator god usually fashions the first human beings, the god destroys at least one world of mortals by causing a great flood, world as in nature birth maturity and death are followed by rebirth, and heroes are children of gods who have an unusual birth with extraordinary strength, kill monsters with the help of special weapons, embark on an arduous journey, descends into the underworld as a part of their tasks and have an unusual death.

3. The beginning of the universe is the divine beings who separate earth and sky. The beginning is a chaotic formless mass that a god or pair of gods separates. the creator god brings life into earth in the form of plants, animals, and human beings.
